Know what they care about before you say hello
Job titles don’t tell you what someone’s focused on this month. Their recent posts and activity usually do. Paste any LinkedIn profile, connected or not, and ask.
Try it on your network- “linkedin.com/in/daniel-reyes · call tomorrow. What does he care about?”
- “Is she likely to buy?”
- “Write me a 2-line opener.”
- Paste their profile link and ask your question.
- Sniff reads their recent posts, activity and background, and compares it with yours.
- Walk in with priorities, talking points and things to avoid.

- Faster CI. He’s posted about build times 3 times this month.
- Two senior platform hires before Q1.
- His post on monorepo migrations (1.2k reactions).
- You both spoke at React Summit 2024.
- Pricing in the first 10 minutes. He calls it a red flag.
Ten minutes before a call with a VP Engineering
Alex has a first call tomorrow with Daniel Reyes, VP Engineering at Linear. They’re not connected, but share 3 mutual connections.
- Alex pastes Daniel’s profile link and asks “Call tomorrow. What does he care about?”
- Sniff reads his recent posts, comments and background and compares them with Alex’s profile. He has posted about CI build times three times this month and is hiring two senior platform engineers.
- It also finds common ground: they both spoke at React Summit 2024. His post on monorepo migrations is the obvious opener.
- Alex asks “Write me a 2-line opener” and edits the draft into their own words.
Result: Alex opens on build times, asks how the new hires change Daniel’s plans, and holds pricing until he asks.
People, companies and numbers in this example are illustrative.
Do I need to be connected to someone to prep for a call?
No. Paste any LinkedIn profile link, connected or not, and ask your question.
What does Sniff look at?
Their recent posts and comments, role and company changes, and background, compared with your own profile to find shared schools, past companies, mutual connections and interests.
Can it write my opener?
If you ask, it suggests a short opener based on what they’ve posted. You edit it and decide what to say. Sniff never sends anything for you.
Is call prep included on the free plan?
Yes. Call prep from any LinkedIn profile is part of the free plan, within its daily search allowance.
